La Fiere Parachute Drop

The drop at La Fiere is the one commemoration that puts parachutes back in the sky over the ground they were fought for. Serving airborne troops and re-enactors jump onto the fields beside the causeway, often from vintage C-47s, in the sector the 82nd Airborne held against counter-attack for three days after the landings.
It is usually held on the weekend closest to 6 June and draws large crowds; the approach lanes fill early and are often closed to traffic.
Sainte-Mere-Eglise and the Airborne Museum are a short drive east and make the natural pairing for the day.
